Sessions are relaxed and collaborative

This is about showing up as yourself without posing or pressure

What we love most is photographing real people, places and moments

Sometimes More is More

Hi. We are Julia Kuskin and Kate Collins - portrait and lifestyle photographers based in Seattle, WA. After years of working independently and developing our own styles, we wondered what it would be like to work together. Turns out two really is better than one. We were amazed at how well our images mesh together, and you’ll get the benefit of a layered, richer perspective.

Our background in editorial work informs the way we see, compose, and tell a story (Travel + Leisure, Sunset, NYTimes Magazine, Time, Seattle Bride and many more). Plus we’re longtime friends who love what we do, so the atmosphere is easy and fun - you will feel it the moment we begin.

We Love Film

A summer photo of a young topless girl diving into a quarry with big rocks behind her

Each of us has had a decades-long love affair with the depth and character of film, and how it captures light, texture and emotions in such unexpected ways. In this world of instant everything, even the wait for processing is pretty magical.

If you want to add film to your session you’re in the right hands. Film just has that certain je ne sais quoi, hard to put into words but you know it when you see it: Beautifully imperfect, warm, full of character.

People might think we just press the shutter and voilà - a perfect photo

As if we were born with fully formed artistic instincts. Sometimes you get lucky and the first frame on the roll is magic. But most of the time, getting the shot takes a bit of time, patience, and a critical eye. Also, an understanding of composition, color, light, and the technical stuff: light meters, f-stops, and shutter speeds. And yes, a little bit of magic. It takes a kind of spidey sense - like knowing your kid is up to something before the chocolate-covered mouth gives it away. This work is rewarding, time-consuming, sometimes grueling, and we wouldn’t change it for anything.

To me photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event.
